Why do I need a Will?
Ask yourself - who is best placed to decide:
- Who gets your house?
- How your money should be shared and managed?
- Who looks after your children?
A Will legally indicates your wishes.
If you die without a Will:
- Your personal bank accounts are frozen (including 'Joint Accounts')
- The Courts decide the fate of any children
On average this takes 2 years to sort out compared with a matter of weeks with a Will.
Why choose Legal Wills Direct to write my Will?
We make it easy - a professional Will writing service. All for a fixed cost.
Do I need a Solicitor?
The simple answer is 'NO'. You may choose to use a Solicitor to write your Will, but it is not necessary. You do not need a Solicitor to witness the signing of your Will either.
Which Will is right for me?
If you are in a relationship and BOTH of you want to make a Will - Mirror Wills are best for you both.
If you are a 'single' person - a single Will is right for you.
If you are in a relationship, but wish to leave your estate to beneficiaries other than your partner - a single Will is right for you?
If you are in a relationship but your partner does not want to make a Will - a single Will is right for you?
If you are in a relationship and BOTH of you want to make a Will - Mirror Wills are best for you both.
What information do I need to give you?
Obviously we need to get information regarding you and your loved ones. We do not ask or need any financial information. None of the information used to write the Will is used for any other purpose, other than writing or re-writing your Will. We do not work with any third parties or pass on any information.
When do I pay?
Payment is only requested once you have completed the questionnaire and checked its content. Once the information has been checked by you - a request for payment will be made through our secure online system.
What if I realise I made a mistake in my Will?
No problem, we all make mistakes. If notified within 30 days of payment we will re-write the Will for Free. A small fee for postage will be charged. If after 30 days you wish to amend your Will - we will re-write the Will at a discounted price.
How long will it take to get my Will to me?
Normally within 7 working days.
What if I don't have anyone to leave my estate too?
If you don't have any relatives - your estate will most likely go to 'The Crown'. A Will gives you the opportunity to leave your estate to a friend or Charity.
Can I make specific legacies?
It is possible to leave specific legacies (e.g. wedding rings to daughters) however changing these may involve altering your Will.
Can I leave money to a charity?
Yes. It is sensible to name a charity in your Will as a beneficiary.
Can I set up trusts for my children?
Yes. This is a fundamental part of the service we provide and included in every Will we write.
What about Inheritance Tax?
Writing a Will does not alter your duty of 'Inheritance Tax'. However, not having a Will could, in certain circumstances, increase the amount to be paid.
Do you store Wills?
We don't think you need to pay us to 'store' your Will - you can either keep it safe yourself or keep it with your house deeds at the bank for example. We don't offer storage ourselves - just a full professional Will writing service.
If you really don't wish to store your Will yourselves, we can ensure it is stored securely for a one off fee of £49.
